The NFL in London
The NFL has been running games in London since the 2007 season. The first one was a tilt between the New York Giants and the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 28 of that year, inside Wembley Stadium.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the league didn’t hold any international games in the 2020 season. They returned overseas last year for two games: The New York Jets vs. the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 10 and the Dolphins vs. the Jaguars on Oct. 17.
There are plenty of ticket packages available to interested customers who plan to see any of the three NFL London games in 2022. This includes premium lounges, suites and the well-known “H Club” at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Seahawks vs. Buccaneers In Munich
Days before Super Bowl 56, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced that Seattle and Tampa Bay would play at Allianz Arena — home of the FC Bayern Munich squad. Goodell also announced that Frankfurt will host multiple future NFL International Series games.
As previously noted, the Seahawks-Bucs showdown will mark the first ever NFL regular season contest to be held in Germany. Coincidentally, it will take place six years to the date where Tom Brady last played the Seahawks — a 31-24 victory at Gillette Stadium back in 2016.
Brady is the NFL’s most accomplished and recognized player, so he’s perfectly deserving of the honor to play at the first NFL game in Germany. And this contest will be taking place in mid-November, so it could carry significant playoff implications for one or both teams.
Cardinals vs. 49ers In Mexico City
The Cardinals-49ers game will mark the first NFL contest in Mexico since the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers faced off at Estadio Azteca on Nov. 18, 2019.
Arizona and San Francisco were both wild card teams last year, and both figure to be in the tight playoff race at this point of the season. If that turns out to be the case, there will be extra hype for this marquee showdown.
This will be the fourth NFL game to take place in Mexico. The first one was the Houston Texans vs. the Oakland (now Las Vegas) Raiders on Nov. 21, 2016 at Estadio Azteca. A year later, the Raiders and New England Patriots played at the same venue on Nov. 19. And of course, the aforementioned Chiefs-Chargers 2019 game was the last game to take place in Mexico.
The Rams and Kansas City Chiefs were initially scheduled to play in Mexico City on Nov. 19, 2018, but the NFL had to relocate the game to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum because of the field conditions.
The game in Mexico City will be the first of two meetings between the Cardinals and 49ers in the 2022 season. The two clubs will also meet again at San Francisco in Week 18 on Jan. 8 (time to be determined).
