How to Live as a Digital Nomad? Top Tips

Fed up with putting your dreams of traveling on hold for your career?

What if we told you that it was entirely possible for you to keep working while traveling

In fact, this is something that thousands of people across the world take advantage of - giving them the chance to earn money while seeing the world. One way in which you can achieve this goal is by becoming a digital nomad. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, it simply refers to an individual who works remotely across multiple destinations, as opposed to clocking in from a set location.

Intrigued? Here are some tips that you can use to achieve success when becoming a digital nomad.

Find a place to call ‘home’

Working as a digital nomad is incredibly fulfilling, but it is important that you do not feel as though you’re living out of your suitcase indefinitely. Furthermore, staying in hotels isn’t always the best bet, as it can quickly get expensive, and they’re rarely the best environment to work from. As such, you need to try to set up a home base in every country or town you visit.

For example, if you’re staying in California, you may want to look into furnished short-term rentals in Sacramento. This way, you can set up a base in a space that feels like home, allowing you to work as productively as possible.

Invest in the relevant insurance

While you may be used to taking out travel insurance policies to provide you with protection should you get injured while traveling, you may need to take out more comprehensive insurance when working and living abroad long-term. For example, you may also want to take out contents insurance for any equipment you use to do your work.

Check out the legalities

Depending on your destination of choice, there may be certain legalities associated with working remotely in that country. Familiarizing yourself with the regulations ahead of time can make it easier to avoid complications and apply for the relevant permits and visas.

Take time zones into consideration

Whether you’re working as a social media manager or an accountant, you may need to take into account the fact that you’ll likely be working across different time zones, especially if your clients are based in your home country. For example, you may need to host a late-night meeting to catch up with a client worldwide. You can keep an eye on differing time zones by using the world clock.

Set yourself a working schedule

Finding the perfect balance of work and play can be difficult when you’re working from some of the most beautiful destinations in the world. As such, you need to be strict with yourself when it comes to making sure you actually sit down and do the work.

Otherwise, you’re far more likely to miss deadlines, lose clients and run out of money. One way in which you can remedy this is by setting yourself a working schedule, similar to the kind you’d have if you were working a standard 9-5!
